Spring Theme Event Ideas

Spring is such a beautiful time of the year. The trees begin to take shape and turn green once again and the flowers slowly start to wake up from their winters sleep. Spring is all about starting out fresh and having blossoming joy in your life.

Why not add an element of Spring in to your next event to bring freshness and life to your party. You don’t necessarily have to stick to the theme, but try throwing in some of the elements to bring your next party to the next level.

Luckily, Swank Productions have some great tips to help you create a fresh Spring feel.

7Colors

You’re going to want really light colors along with some smooth pastel colors. The first colors that spring to mind (excuse the pun!) are duck-egg blues, fresh yellows and glorious greens. Keep the tone of the colors light. You don’t want too many dark colors dragging down the fresh and positive energy. You can have these colors on fabrics and decorations.

Flowers

Spring is a time when flowers begin to grow into season and brighten up our lives. In my opinion, it is so important to have bright, beautiful and youthful looking flowers. Daisy’s and daffodil’s are a perfect example of flowers that represent spring. Anything with vibrant colors will be sure to bring a new energy of life to your party.

Florals are a must for Spring!

Food and Drink

spring 4An exciting food that is fresh for spring is cherries.  Lovely colored fruits are so fresh in this season and the bright colors allow the fruit to become like an edible decoration. Healthy foods are a must for the “Rebirth” season. Sticking to fresh and colorful fruit and vegetables will be a hit. Any other cold foods that are fresh are encouraged here.

8 Reasons To Hire An Event Planner/Designer For Your Corporate Event

 IMG_7742-2

It is common for people to think that professional Event Planners are going to be expensive. But the reality is that planners know the tips, tricks and contacts that could save you time and money in the long run without sacrificing the quality of your event.

Here are some of our reasons to hire an Event Planner/Designer for your corporate event:

8. Capitalize on our Contacts and ResourcesYAHOO_GENOME_BE_31

A Planner’s rolodex is a gold mine. From lighting to décor to power and more, all the right contacts are at our fingertips. No more web-searching required when we can speed-dial the best canopy vendor to serve your location, or obtain a liquor application for a City park. Because of the number of events we’ve done with tons of different companies, we know the pros and cons of each and can help me make the best choices and stay on-budget.

7. You’ll host your event at the right placeSwank Productions Studio 450 Corporate Holiday Party Table Set-up (2)

Where you should host your event- what city and where in the city- depends on the kind of event you’re hosting and what your goals are for the event. Your event planner will help you choose a venue that can actually help you meet your goals for your event. This is something that can affect attendance, sales, and tons of other details.

6. You’ll save time

Nobody has enough hours in the day anymore, so why spread yourself too thin doing something that someone else can do for you more efficiently and effectively? Planners thrive on this activity, and they can organize and execute your event in less time than you ever could, allowing you to focus on other responsibilities.

5. You’ll save your company money

Event Planners build relationships with suppliers, and we receive discounted rates from vendors that a quality planner will pass on to the client. When you call the same supplier, you are likely to pay their standard rates, which can be higher by as much as 20 percent or more. You’d think because you have to pay the event planner, you’re spending more money, right? Not so. Once we  know what your budget is (and how strict you are about sticking to it), we can work with vendors to save you money on all kinds of things. In the long run, an event planner can actually save you the money you spent hiring him/her, and then some.

4. Experience

Over time, Event Planners gain extensive knowledge and wisdom regarding events and parties; they know the latest trends, newest venues, the hot colors, budget-saving secrets and details that you may not be aware of if you plan only one or two events annually.

3. Crisis Management

Despite all the planning, preparation and management, almost every event inevitably encounters an unforeseen problem. You don’t want guests aware of this obstacle and you certainly don’t want to appear panicked. This is when you need a Planner at your side because they know who to call and how to remedy a situation quickly. Whether it’s a missing limo or a fallen wedding gown hem, your Planner can secure the resources necessary to resolve an issue seamlessly and keep the event on track.

2. You’ll have a better-looking event IMG_0529

Event planners know that part of what makes for a great event is that it looks and feels great. There are tons of details that you may not think of on your own or even from browsing Pinterest. Things like, did you know that if you angle your audience chairs a certain way, it makes them feel more involved and engaged? Or that if you have different sized vases it can make a room seem more dimensional and have different levels? Event Planners know the tips and tricks to make an event wow your guests.

1. You can actually enjoy your eventIMG_8071

When you’re planning an event, doing everything yourself is a very, very big job. And it gets stressful. As soon as you hire an event planner, you can breathe. You can step back, regroup, focus on the things you know the most about, and get a lot of work done. Because someone else is handling the details of the event itself, you can be more productive on the things you do best. Plus, when the event begins, Swank Productions will be monitoring and making sure the logistics are handled so that you can focus on making my guests feel welcome and comfortable and maybe even eat the awesome food you chose!

Remember these the next time your company decides to throw an unforgettable party!

Top 11 Reasons Why You Need A Wedding Planner

Swanky Blogging: Weddings

 wedding

You’ve been dreaming about your wedding ever since you can remember, and now that you’re engaged, you’re excited to start the planning process. But planning a wedding isn’t all fun and games. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, consider hiring a wedding planner.

A wedding planner is a professional consultant who will help you with most (if not all) of the tasks involved in planning your wedding. From vendors, accessories, etiquette and even the smallest of details, this expert has the skills and contacts necessary to make your day come together seamlessly.

Here are our top reasons why hiring a wedding planner could be the best decision you ever make!

wedding 1

11. We Got Your Back:

We will be with you for those times where decisions seem impossible and we will also be there to solve them. When you book your wedding venue, you will generally be in touch with the venues on-site wedding coordinator so that they can assist with logistics for your wedding day. This is not the same as having an independent wedding planner. It is the job of the on-site coordinator, or catering manager, to ensure that the logistics and facilities are running smoothly. It is the job of a wedding planner to encourage your creative flow and to explore any ideas that make this the happiest day of your life. Your wedding planner will create a truly personal and unique experience to tailor your needs. Weddings require a lot of decision-making on hundreds of small details. These decisions will need to be made quickly so that the planning process moves forward. If you and your groom ever find yourselves struggling or having a “creative difference”, your trusted wedding planner can help weigh the pros and con’s so that the planning process becomes an enjoyable experience.

10. Insider Information

As wedding planners, we spend much of our time researching and building relationships with only the best vendors the city has to offer. It is our job to know who to work with and who not to work with. The relationship that a wedding planner has with vendors allows the wedding planner to become a strong negotiator. Wedding planners provide repeat business and loyalty to vendors, and so the vendors are easier to deal with and more flexible.

We deal with vendors so that you don’t have too.

9. Saves Timewedding 3

Planning your own wedding will completely consume your time. We understand that you have a very unique idea for your special day and that every detail counts. The endless amount of bridal magazines can be overwhelming. You may know exactly what you want but are finding it hard to put all your ideas together. Your wedding planner will help you focus and piece everything together for you.

wedding 68. Mediator

Down the line during this journey, difficult decisions can lead to a build-up of stress. Sometimes arguments occur between couples or family members. This is where we become the mediator. We have dealt with family conflict and know exactly what works and what doesn’t. We are here to make sure that the soon to be mother-in-law still invites you around for Sunday dinners and special occasions. It is easier to say “the wedding planner thinks it is best for us to…” rather than to upset anybody.

7. Crisis Management

Let’s be honest, whether we like it or not, most big events involve crisis.  Who really wants to deal on their wedding day with the bakery not delivering the cake on time or the flower girl throwing a tantrum? Wedding planners know how to handle all unforeseen circumstances. On your special day, you should enjoy getting your make-up perfected and having your hair done with your friends and family, not on the phone to the band who will be running 30 minutes late.

6. Fresh PerspectiveWedding 7

You’re excited and you have so many ideas that it’s hard to focus on any one idea at a time. It is the job of the wedding planner to listen carefully to your personal vision. Chances are that you have a theme in mind and an idea of the colors you want to use. Wedding planners bring your creative ideas to the next level and inspire you so that your vision becomes a reality and every detail is perfect. We understand that this is your wedding day and you want it to be the best wedding possible. Let your wedding planner inspire you and give you ideas that will make this wedding a reality.

5. Paper Pusher

Planning a wedding is not always as fun as it sounds. The whole process can be a paper disaster and involve a huge workload of paperwork. How many vendors do I have? What’s their email? When is the contract due? What dates are the payments due? When is our next appointment? Who do I still need to book? When is my fitting? Keeping track of this can be a nightmare for any couple. Your wedding planner will keep all this work and simplify it into an itinerary so that it is easily read and easy to follow.

4. Meeting Demandswedding 4

Does your family have a different idea of how your wedding should look? Many brides have to deal with a plethora of conflicting opinions from their friends and family about how the wedding should unfold, and it can be hard to please everyone. Not to mention stressful. A wedding planner will deal with your family’s expectations, show you the available options and can be relied upon to give you expert advice so you make an informed decision.

3. Turns Dream into Reality

We can understand and interpret your vision. Wedding planners’ jobs are to listen to what you want and make it happen in the most realistic terms. No matter whether you know exactly what you want, have a vague idea, or no idea at all, a wedding planner can help you define the look, style, mood and emotions you want to create. We know the latest trends and are inspired daily by other brides, suppliers and the industry. We can visualize what will work in your venue and know how to bring your desired mood to life.

Most have been dreaming of their wedding day their entire life.  Wedding planners work for the couple and ensure that all desires are met and often surpassed!

wedding 82. Experience

It’s daunting to know how many suppliers are out there and how many people it takes to make a wedding a success. Knowing who to trust and who is right for you is one of the hardest tasks of planning a wedding. A professional wedding planner will have worked in the industry for quite a number of years. An experienced planner can help you navigate around all of the confusions of wedding vendor price tags and create a balanced budget that revolves around your personal wedding priorities. Your wedding planner has the knowledge and experience to advise you and your family on everything from addressing invitations to dealing with uninvited guests. Wedding planners orchestrate from rehearsal through the end of the reception, ensuring everything goes off without a hitch!

1. Minimizes Stress and Maximizes Fun

wedding 5

We can give you peace of mind that things will get done, and done properly. Knowing that you have an advocate there coordinating your day allows you to enjoy the moment and be a relaxed guest at your wedding, not a stressed-out problem solver. Remember, you are the bride! You don’t want to also act as the go-to person for the day-of issues and questions that inevitably come up. Hiring an experienced wedding planner allows you and all of your beloved family and guests to live in the moment, watching your wedding day unfold beautifully as your planner works behind the scenes to keep all the wheels turning. Your wedding will be one of the most unforgettable days of your entire life! Remember it as a joy and enjoy it to the fullest! On the morning of your wedding day, you should be relaxing with your bridesmaids, sipping champagne, and thinking about just one thing: marrying your best friend.

Mad Men Themed Party

Mad Men Theme Party

pic12

Fans are gearing up for the new season series of Madmenthe widely popular groundbreaking TV show.  Set in the 1960’s the show circles around the extraordinary life of Don Draper, a talented ad executive at a prestigious advertising firm.

What makes this show so wildly successful is the sharp styles, the outstanding class and the pure “sexy-ness” that surrounds every character.  Audiences of all ages and genders can relate to this perfect combination of power, control, sex and glamour.

And so there’s never been a more opportune time to hold a Madmen Themed Party!  Especially perfect for any Milestone Birthday Party!

pic8

Here are a few steps to ensuring that your theme is as glamorous as the TV show:

Create the Setting – 1960’s

It is important to remember the theme should be based on New York in the 60’s. You’re going to want it sharp and glamorous so to do this, keep colors as neutral as possible. Be sure to include Bob Dylan, The Kingsmen and of course, the early Beatles.

If you want to host your party outside, a good tip would be bringing your indoor furniture outside to create that ‘living room’ or ‘office’ lounge area feel. Some necessary decorations include:

  • Boxes of Fake Era Cigarettes pic7
  • Vintage Bar Carts
  • Jukebox , Old Radio or Old TV
  • Typewriter
  • Ashtrays & Cigarette Holders
  • Mahogany-Wood Furniture
  • Patterned Rugs & Pillows

Powerful Drinks Reception

pic3

A Madmen theme party is nothing without the eloquent and prestigious cocktail reception. Some suggested cocktails would include the popular Manhattan, Old –Fashioned and Martini’s of all types.  Everyone at your party is going to want to have their specialized cocktail that brings them back to the elegant era. Nearly more important than the drink, is the glass that it is served in and the garnish so make sure to include the Martini glasses with an olive on a toothpick.

Dress Code

With a Madmen inspired theme party, it’s all about the fashion.

For the men, you won’t go wrong with a blazer, white shirt and a skinny tie. A vintage plaid or tweed blazer, hat and thick rimmed glasses would all be a bonus.

For the women: Pencil skirts, a big bright lip color and Accessorize!  A hostess apron for that sixties homemaker look will give the party that extra detail along with BIG hair. You just can not be overdressed for this theme.

TIP! The most important tip for a REAL Madmen party experience: Try to keep technology to a minimum. This can include hiding any modern TV’s or computer equipment that can spoil your atmosphere.

We hope you have an incredible party, and if you feel you’d like the real deal, contact us for some help! Any of these decorations are available for rent.

Passover Ideas

Passover starts Monday evening.

But sometimes Passover can seem so ‘steeped in tradition’ that it feels like there’s no room for any  ‘fun’ or’modern’ design details.

But you know me… I always like to push the envelope (or the afikomen) lol!

If you’re being hosted by someone then a thank you gift will be needed!  This year I’m really loving these chocolate dipped matzos from Fatty Sundays

fattysundays-chocolate-covered-matzoh-flavors-sprinkles_grande[1]

They are super cute and super sweet and can be customized by picking colored glitter too….and if you want to do a project with your kids this weekend it seems like a really easy and fun project to make at home!

If you’re the hostess ( and setting a formal table with place cards) I made these personalized matzo place cards ( with chocolate lettering) for everyone last year and they were a huge hit!

If you’re looking for something quick and easy, I’ve also made these matzo napkin holders. Print out a full page of a matzo graphic, choose the napkin fold you prefer and you can write each persons name with a marker!

Remember, it’s the little details that make the big wow moments!

Top 10 Spring Wedding Decor & Design Ideas

Spring is FINALLY here!

After what seemed like the longest, coldest, most dreary of winters EVER… April is finally here and thank goodness so is Spring!  And with Spring comes Spring Weddings, Parties & Events!

What I love about spring ties in directly to what I love about event design….the Transformation!  Spring is all about the transformation from the emptiness and cold of winter to the new promise and beauty of spring.  The same goes for event design.  I love…ok I get a complete THRILL…when I get to take an empty venue or a blank table and create a vision of Springs Beauty!

Here are my top 10 favorite spring events

Halloween Color Trends

Color trends for Halloween have been stuck for a long time in the candy-corn / black-cat palette – a treat for kids but tricky for adults. Our new vision for stylish wickedness takes the color trend to an aesthetic as refined as fine sugar and as indulgent as a pillowcase full of candy.
The seasons themselves are color trends, and here is Autumn at dusk – beet-stained fingers by kitchen candle light, the last ripened plums before the frost, a sweep of shadow in the clouds, a pale and golden moon about to rise – cool, rich, dark, and magical.
These color trends – unlike the black and orange stripes of old – translate beautifully into any area where color is to be found – from woolen sweaters and chunky scarves to stockings, nail polish, eye shadow and lipsticks, or even as an accent wall in the home. Playing with textures and layering adds depth and narrative to these hues, so get creative! And if you can find a pumpkin in ANY of these colors we’d LOVE to know!

Halloween as a Corporate Holiday Party

Halloween as a Corporate Holiday Party?  Why not?  If you don’t want to go the typical ‘Winter Wonderland’ Company Holiday Party then doing a Halloween themed event for your employees and favorite clients is a great way to get the holiday season started!

Here are a few photos of an event we did at Home Studio.  Home is a great event venue for many reasons but what I loved about it was the entire venue is focused around a huge communal kitchen in the center.  That gave us the ability to go full on culinary gore….

Don’t eat before looking! :)

Halloween Entertainment – Blood Manor!

Things that go bump in the night…

I love Halloween.  LOVE IT!  And while my costuming choices tend toward the glamorous and fantastical, I love to see a good zombie or decomposing hog beast lurking in the shadows too. Blood Manor’s Press release party served up the latter in spades.  Billed as ‘New York’s Premier Haunted Attraction’ Blood Manor delivers the blood-soaked goods with creativity, dedication and high production value.

Their cast of characters (who we’ve hired for our Halloween events) is truly dedicated to their craft. I’m not easily spooked, but who (or WHATEVER!) inhabited the aforementioned hog-beast costume had the lurking down to an artful science, appearing behind me soundlessly, and invading my personal space with a hushed and palpable menace – so disconcerting I had to get away! The dark hallways left Braden and I clutching to each other for dear life, but the 3D paint room brought us to our senses…and then blew us away! Their Haunted House is a well conceived and richly produced theatre-piece, absorbing, detailed, terrifying and wonderfully fun.

For anyone who thinks that the ‘slutty witch’ or ‘slutty nun’ or ‘slutty slut’ costume is only scary because of how devoid of inspiration and creativity is, Blood Manor’s experience is an absolute must – a horror film for the artist and intellect alike. Enjoy the feast!

Great Venues for Holiday Parties

It may be only the first week of October but corporate holiday party planning is in full swing! And for some of the hottest venues in New Yok dates are starting to run out.
There are of course dozens of venues that I LOVE for corporate events…but here are some of the ones we’ve recently had fun celebrating the holiday season in.

Angel Oresanz Center

Angel Orensanz is a 1849 synagogue, modeled after the Cathedral of Cologne.  It has a gothic style with an amazing gold-leaf altar, vaulted ceiling and surrounding mezzanine. It once was the studio of Spanish sculptor Angel Orensanz, but now hosts arts events, performances, and private events (most famously the wedding of Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick)

THE DESMOND TUTU CENTER

The Desmond Tutu Center is a beautifully charming  restored historic 19th-century Gothic structure   True old world style, dark woods, vaulted ceiling with sophisticated 21st-century comforts.

Studio 450

Studio 450 is a gorgeous all white open loft space on the 12th floor of an industrial building on the west side.  With a second floor that has wrap around terrace, this amazingly bright and sunny space is a blank pallate for any event design and perfect for winter holiday parties.

The Puck Building

The Puck Building is a former commercial space with two magnificent floors of venue space perfect for you winter holiday events.  With exposed brink, high ceilings and gorgeous floor to ceiling arched windows this venue can be transformed into anything your mind can come up with.

GOTHAM HALL

Gotham Hall was the former headquarters of the Greenwich Savings Bank.  It is a gorgeous venue for corporate events and boasts a magnificent Art Deco ballroom with a seven-story-tall grand vaulted dome ceiling, enormous Corinthian columns and majestic marble floors.

These are of course just a TINY FEW of my favorite venues for hosting a holiday party or corporate event this season.  What are some of your favorites?  Let us know!
